Full disclosure before anything else: I built Searcher OS, which is the first tool on this list. I'm not going to pretend that's a coincidence. I am going to keep the rundown honest, because every searcher I've met compares notes constantly, and a comparison post that oversells its own product gets found out in about a week.
Kumo earned its spot as the default deal aggregator. It indexes over 100,000 listings (their number) across marketplaces and brokerage sites, and the alerts work. So why do people go looking for an alternative? In my conversations it's usually 1 of 3 reasons: they want workflow on top of search (a pipeline, CIM analysis, outreach), they want deeper coverage of small regional brokers, or they want to spend less.
Here's the field as I see it in June 2026.
1. Searcher OS (mine)
Searcher OS treats sourcing as step 1 of a funnel instead of the whole product. The feed aggregates the major marketplaces plus 350+ regional broker sites we scrape directly, and paid plans include custom scrapes of specific brokers you care about. From there the rest of the funnel lives in the same tool: buy box matching, a Kanban pipeline, AI CIM analysis, SBA and DSCR calculators, an AI next-best-action brief, and Mark, our AI deal associate, who handles broker outreach and NDA forms.
The honest tradeoff: Kumo's raw index is bigger. If you screen hundreds of deals a week across every segment and you already have your own CRM and analyst, raw index size might be all you need. Searcher OS has a free plan with no credit card, and the Searcher plan is $79/month, and I wrote a fuller head-to-head at Searcher OS vs Kumo.
2. BizScout
BizScout runs a marketplace of roughly 20,000 listings plus a buyer dashboard they call DealOS, with pipeline and diligence features and a partner network of SBA lenders and attorneys. Their Pro plan listed at $83/month billed annually (roughly $199 month to month) when I checked in June 2026, with a free Basic tier below it. It's the closest thing on this list to the same "operating system" thesis I'm chasing, approached from the marketplace side. The catch is that a marketplace has 2 customers, buyers and sellers, and the product has to serve both.
3. DealStream
DealStream is an older marketplace (it was MergerNetwork for years) with a wide mix: businesses, real estate, and oil and gas. Coverage skews bigger and more varied than the SMB core. It's free to browse, which makes it a reasonable supplement to alerts, though I wouldn't run a search on it alone.
4. BizNexus
BizNexus repositioned toward lower-middle-market origination, with a valuation tool and a newsletter. If your targets sit above the typical self-funded range ($5M+ EBITDA territory), it's worth a look. For a first-time SBA buyer it's probably more platform than you need.
5. Clearly Acquired
Clearly Acquired markets itself as an AI-native M&A platform spanning buyers, brokers, and lenders, with persona-specific dashboards. The ambition is broad, covering deal sourcing through financing. I find the breadth makes it harder to tell what the core product is, but buyers who want sourcing and lending in one place may like that bundle.
6. Searchfunder
Searchfunder isn't software in the same sense; it's the community where 10,000+ searchers, investors, and operators post deals, ask questions, and compare tools (including threads comparing Kumo alternatives, which is probably how some of you got here). No feed, no pipeline. But if you're running a search and you're not on it, you're missing the room where everyone trades notes.
7. The DIY route: marketplace alerts + a spreadsheet
The free option deserves a real entry. Saved searches on BizBuySell and BizQuest, email alerts on, plus a Google Sheet for tracking. I ran my own early screening this way and it works at small scale. The cost shows up in hours: manual triage every morning, zero regional broker coverage, and a spreadsheet that goes stale the week you get busy. When people ask me when to graduate from the spreadsheet, my answer is usually "when you miss your first good deal because the alert sat unread for 4 days."
How I'd choose
- Maximum raw listing volume, workflow handled elsewhere: stick with Kumo, or add DealStream as a free supplement.
- The whole funnel in 1 tool, with regional broker coverage: Searcher OS (again, mine, discount accordingly).
- Marketplace plus buyer tooling in one: BizScout.
- Lower middle market: BizNexus.
- Community and deal flow from other humans: Searchfunder, regardless of which software you pick.
- Budget of $0: BizBuySell alerts and a spreadsheet, until it costs you a deal.
Whichever way you go, the sourcing tool is the cheap part of a search. The expensive part is the 6 months you lose running a process that leaks deals. Pick the setup that keeps your funnel moving, and if I can answer questions about any of these (including honest ones about where Searcher OS falls short), my inbox is open.
